Ep. 135: NHL All-Star Jerseys, Hockey Brothers and Bruce Boudreau
A little bit shorter of an episode released this past Tuesday - you can listen to it here. Below is a recap of what we talked about!
NHL All Star Jersey reveal and our thoughts on it! Rae is more of a fan of the Western but feels she can’t buy one if her team is in the East.
The NHL All Star jersey is inspired by the All Star game played during the Panthers inagual season, featuring respective team and all star shoulder patches, the vintage NHL logo and a play on the reverse retro look. The color schemes are the colors of south Florida, electric blue and pinks inspired by the sunsets and neon lights of south beach. With primary black/white colors and biscayne blue and flamingo pink that are perfect representations of south Florida.
Rae’s Blackhawks are the first NHL team to reach 10 million likes on TikTok - what is your favorite team on TikTok?
Brotherly love, we chat brothers in the NHL as the top headline this past week in our book was the Joseph brothers both getting penalties for high sticking eachother. Mathieu Joseph (Ottawa Senators) and his brother Pierre-Olivier Joseph (Pittsburgh Penguins) who played each other for the first time in the big league, both took 2 minute penalties for hitting each other in the face. The best part may have been their parents reaction though. The brothers were scheduled to play each other again a few days later, but Mathieu was a healthy scratch due to an internal incident even though the Joseph family had roughly 50 family members in attendance for that game at the Canadian Tire Center in Ottawa.
You know we had to talk about the Vancouver Canucks and Bruce Boudreau. This guy was shafted in our opinion. Seeing him emotional during his last game as the head coach of the Canucks hit us all in the feels. Bruce came out with a statement that he would never quit the team as he always told the players never to give up, don’t quit, keep going and him quitting would be against his morals and he refused to quit on the players. Bruce there it is, he was voted as this weeks Hunk of the week for all that he’s gone through.
Staying in Canada, we also had to address Connor McDavid’s insirpation in Edmonton that they have a snowplow named after him, Connor McBladeIt.
Steven Stamkos hit the 500 club and his son Carter stole the show once again during his ceremony. Check out the clip here on the Tampa Bay Lightning instagram page.
Ryan Miller of the Buffalo Sabres had his number retired and lifted into the rafters of the Keybank Center. Miller spent 11 seasons with Buffalo and is the franchise leader in games played bya goaltender at 540, winning 284 games and having 14,847 saves. He also had 28 shutouts with a .916 save percentage, finishing his career with more wins than any other American-born goaltender in NHL history at 391.
Additionally, we chat hockey injuries, specifically in Carolina and Montreal.
Lastely, on a heavier note, we discuss Ivan Provorov, and his decision to not participate in the pregame skate wearing the Pride jersey for the Philadelphia Flyers. We believe hockey is for everyone and provide our take on what we believe this means. Please tune into the episode to hear this segment on this, you’ll find this at the end of the episode.
